Blog #12: Jojo Rabbit
Jojo Rabbit is a 2019 comedy-drama film and was written and directed by Taiki Waititi. It stars Roman Davis portraying the main character, Jojo, an 11 year old Hitler fanatic, Scarlett Johansson who plays his mother, the jewish girl they hide in their attic, Elsa Korr, portrayed by Thomasin McKenzie, as well as Taiki Waititi himself who plays Adolf Hitler.
The second I heard that this movie was coming out, I knew I had to see it. I also knew just from the start that people were going to have issues with it, just based on the subject matter. This is a great movie, and while sometimes it may use dark subject matter for comedic effect, it does not do it to the extreme. However, there were several parts of this movie that I got way more emotional than I thought I was going to, I thought it was gonna be just a comedic look at a boy's life in Nazi ruled Germany during the second World War, however what they do with the jewish girl they are hiding, Elsa, and her interaction with both Jojo's mom, and Jojo is really interesting and adds a lot to the story.
