Weezer, the 90's alternative rock band is back with the covers on this one.  Their new compilation, The Teal Album, arose after the massive success of their surprise cover of the Toto classic Africa. The Teal Album was a surprising release, releasing a whole album of covers with no prior promotion or advertisement on January 24th at midnight. This album is a precursor to Weezer's upcoming self-titled album, Weezer (Black Album), releasing this March. Overall, the record is a nice easy listen, only around 39 minutes long, a nice car ride listen.  None of the covers are spectacular or anything, it is mostly just Weezer putting their own modern sound to old classics.  That being said, it is a very interesting list of covers.   That being said, it also seems Weezer is honoring the eras of their own band with this list.  Starting with the very modern Weezer sound with their 80s throwback with upbeat and radio friendly covers of Toto cover tune Africa, Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears, Eurythmics Sweet Dreams (Are Made of These), and the a-ha classic Take On Me. To the very guitar heavy, 90s Weezer sound with Black Sabbath's Paranoid and ELO's Mr. Blue Sky.  Back to their more modern sound with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean, finishing with the very bass heavy Ben E. King cover of Stand By Me.  Many of the covers stay true to the original, which unlike others, I do not have an issue with it.  Overall, the album is a great listen and is a great throwback to several classic tunes with a modern sound as well as old-school to them.
